PRESENTATION :
This bike is special.
Of course, every Avalanche bike is unique, but this one is just as special for its owner as it is for the rider, and in this case, the rider. We don't usually refer to our customers by name in our communications, but for once this description will be made in the first person, to talk about Pierre's bike.
I made this bike for Pierre, my twin brother, a big guy of 1m90 (yes, it's OK, I know that next to him, I'm tiny...). The plan was for a bike that would be mainly travel-oriented, with a fairly heavy load, and whose components would be sourced mainly from France and Europe. The tubes come from Columbus' Spirit range, which offers a wide range of lengths, particularly useful for this large frame. The fork was also made in the workshop.
A rear rack completes the front set. All these stainless steel racks are custom-made and powder-coated for this bike. It can be loaded from the top, and two side panniers can also be added. A frame bag, made by the Marion&Quentin craftsmen, has since been added to the set.
To ensure that there are no limits to bike travel, the bike is fitted with lighting powered by a dynamo hub, and the wires are integrated as far as possible into the fork and frame, while still allowing the front lamp to be disconnected in the event of the fork being removed.
In terms of components, after lengthy discussions, we opted for a single-plate drivetrain, which allows for a wide range of developments, which will be much appreciated when it comes to travelling with a load worthy of Pierre (need I say that I've already seen myself travelling with a guitar on the luggage rack? ) We opted for Ingrid components made in Italy and wheels by the French brand Duke.
Finally, Pierre gave me the freedom to suggest a colour scheme, in keeping with the browns and beiges that he loved. I added a touch of yellow to go with the anodised Ingrid crankset and derailleur we'd chosen. Finally, I added a drawing of Pierre's choice, painted on the top tube, which perfectly sums up his commitment and values for the preservation of living things.
So if you meet a great cyclist somewhere in the Pyrenees on this bike, I'm sure they'll tell you it's the best bike in the world. As my twin brother, I'm aware of the lack of objectivity, but having put all my heart and love into this bike, I'd like to think there's some truth in it.
